Doris Rivaz Trumpler – 26.09.1930 – 18.12.2008

Doris Rivaz Trumpler of Leysin died almost a year ago now having lived with her daughter Chantal Trumpler Dunogier and her family in Rivesaltes, France, in her own apartment in their home for several years after she moved from Leysin. Doris will remain in the hearts of her grandchildren Marc Alasdair, Estelle and Elina as well as with Chantal and her husband Pierre. Many of us from Club Vagabond were proud to be a small part of her life in Leysin over the years. Doris was highly respected and very approachable by all ages alike. She is already missed by many friends in Leysin and those others now scattered all over the world.

Chantal feels that the following two phases seem to sum up her Mom’s philosophy of life:

“Attends tout de toi même!” and ” When there is desire and action there is success. Trust yourself to be the creator of your existence. Be healthy, loving and wise and you will grow”.

I would like to extend my sympathies to the family of Madame Trumpler. It must have been you Chantal, who wrote to me some years ago when I talked about having worked in their shop in 1964. She was a lovely lady and very kind to me. I’m sure she didn’t really need my help as I had no French but I sorted the postcards, swept the footpath and served those customers who spoke English! Prior to that I cleaned their apartment until I told her it was so clean I had nothing to do! I’m so happy to know she was with Chantal for her last years. I’m sure she would have been a lovely Grandmother and the children must miss her. Yours sincerely, Jo Mahar. New Zealnd.

I lived next door to Doris in Leysin for some years and knew her very well through the College. I considered her a great friend, always kind, helpful, considerate, and playfully funny, and I’m sure that she will be sorely missed by Chantal and all who knew her.
