The future of the FROF site

Hi everyone,

I need some feedback about the future od the FROF site ... present membership manager "Jack" has decided to retire from an active role.

We have a few choices for the FROF address book

1. Keep as is - not a long term solution

2. Pay for a site like this $50 per month.
Pros: easy to use(?), easy to ask for donations
Cons: $50 per month

3. Have the addressbook as a spreadsheet available only to members hosted by Google
Pros: free, Google hosted mail, available NOW, addressbook is a spreadsheet
Cons: addressbook is a spreadsheet

4. Have a real social network
Pros: free, works like Facebook
Cons: works like Facebook - no real address book as such

Please leave your comments below.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan, if it's a matter of contributing something reasonable, please count me in. All the best, Dwight.

My high school just started using Ning for reunion stuff and it has been quite successful.

I don't mind what happens, will be happy to donate something to keep the site open. Just let us know what you need.

Dan, you've done so much for all of us on this for so long. What do you want to do? I'd be happy to donate to keep it going, whatever works best for you. How would you prefer to receive donations?

Ps: Still can't find any news to update from the great frozen north.

Dan A sincere thank you for all the work on this site. I have live and visited Leysin for over 35 years and the memories are priceless. I like this website as it is, but I would add a page for reunion listings. ACS is using the Ning http://acsleysin.ning.com/index.php for a website and it does work great. The other problem for a lot of people might be the moving of the address book to the Ning site. This address book here works better for members contacting each other for reunions when the are near other members. The Frof site is invaluable and if a donation is needed so be it. Like other members, it would be a sever loss to loose the Frof website.

Google has all the tools for free to set up a website. Comments and all can be posted via a blog. There are also quite a few very good books on how to go about it. Just a very small bit of effort is needed. Cheers Ben

Thanks for the input Ben. I'm already hosting the FROF mail server on Google Apps and it's great, it just works. The main problem is that the Address Book - it's running on an old computer that can't be upgraded. If we find a solution to that then we can move to a Google hosted blog or whatever. Cheers, Dan
